TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity is intended for medical oncologists, hematology-oncology fellows and other healthcare providers involved in the treatment of metastatic urothelial bladder cancer.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Review how biological factors and patient characteristics such as age, performance status, prior treatment, comorbidities and preexisting conditions influence the selection and sequencing of treatment for metastatic urothelial bladder cancer (mUBC).
  • Recognize the incidence of nectin-4 expression in patients with UBC, and appreciate the scientific justification for the development of antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) targeting this novel biomarker.
  • Interrogate published efficacy and safety findings with anti-PD-1/PD-L1 antibodies in combination with ADC therapy as first-line treatment for mUBC, and consider the current role of this strategy in patient care.
  • Recall pivotal clinical trial findings leading to the FDA approval of novel compounds with unique mechanisms of action for previously treated locally advanced or metastatic UBC, such as ADCs and tyrosine kinase inhibitors, and identify patients for whom these approaches would be appropriate.
  • Appreciate the frequency and severity of therapy-related adverse events commonly encountered by patients receiving guideline-endorsed agents and regimens for mUBC, and enact effective monitoring and management procedures.
  • Describe the scientific justification for and published research data with novel strategies under investigation in UBC, and effectively prioritize clinical trial opportunities for eligible patients.

  • Appreciate the prevalence and clinical relevance of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) amplification or overexpression in various GI cancers, and consider the implications for biomarker assessment and clinical management.
  • Evaluate published clinical trial findings with HER2-directed therapies for HER2-positive biliary tract cancers, and optimally incorporate available agents into the clinical care of appropriately selected patients.
  • Appraise the side effects associated with HER2-directed therapies with established efficacy in GI cancers, and use this information to develop supportive management plans for patients.

TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity is intended for hematologists, medical oncologists, hematology-oncology fellows and other healthcare providers involved in the treatment of multiple myeloma.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Describe cereblon’s role in the degradation of key oncogenic proteins in order to better understand the rationale for the development of cereblon E3 ligase modulators (CELMoDs).
  • Review the mechanism of action and unique characteristics of the CELMoDs under development for multiple myeloma (MM), and appreciate the similarities and differences between these therapies and currently approved immunomodulatory agents.
  • Evaluate published efficacy and safety findings with CELMoDs in the advanced stages of development to prepare for the potential clinical availability of these agents for patients with relapsed/refractory MM.
  • Assess various combination strategies under investigation with CELMoDs and other agents commonly administered to patients with MM, and recognize available and emerging research findings with various combination approaches.
  • Appreciate the frequency and severity of various therapy-related adverse events encountered by patients undergoing treatment with CELMoDs, and use this knowledge to identify, manage and mitigate resultant side effects.

This activity is intended for medical oncologists, hematology-oncology fellows and other healthcare providers involved in the treatment of bladder cancer.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Understand the biological rationale for combining anti-PD-1/PD-L1 antibodies with bacillus Calmette-Guérin for patients with non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer, and discuss available data with and the potential role of this novel approach.
  • Analyze the scientific justification for the use of perioperative immune checkpoint inhibitor-based therapy for patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer, and evaluate available data documenting the efficacy and safety of this therapeutic strategy.
  • Reflect on pivotal clinical trial findings with novel compounds with unique mechanisms of action, such as antibody-drug conjugates, for metastatic urothelial bladder cancer (UBC), and identify patients for whom treatment with these approaches would be appropriate.
  • Recall the design of ongoing clinical trials evaluating other novel agents and strategies for prostate cancer and UBC, and appropriately counsel patients about availability and participation.

  • Evaluate factors that influence the decision to initiate active therapy for immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), including age, comorbidities, bleeding history and risk, lifestyle and personal preferences, and counsel patients regarding personalized initial treatment recommendations.
  • Appraise available guidelines concerning the recommended duration of corticosteroid use as initial therapy for ITP, and identify patients with insufficient response or relapse after steroids for whom a change of treatment may be warranted.
  • Understand long-term efficacy and safety data with FDA-approved second- and later-line treatments for ITP, and consider this information in the selection and sequencing of therapy for patients with persistent or chronic disease.
  • Discern the side effects and toxicities associated with available and investigational therapies for ITP, and identify strategies to manage and mitigate them.
  • Recollect available research and ongoing trials investigating other novel agents and strategies for ITP, and counsel appropriately selected patients about participation in active research protocols.
