TARGET AUDIENCE
This program is intended for gynecologic oncologists, medical oncologists, gynecologists and other healthcare providers involved in the treatment of ovarian cancer.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Understand available clinical research findings with PARP inhibitors as maintenance therapy after first-line platinum-based chemotherapy for advanced OC, and appropriately counsel patients regarding personalized treatment recommendations.
  • Appraise biological and patient- and treatment-related factors to individualize the selection and sequencing of therapy for platinum-sensitive and platinum-resistant recurrent OC.
  • Recognize the rationale for targeting FRα in OC, and understand the mechanism of action of and available research findings with FRα-directed antibody-drug conjugates.
  • Appreciate available clinical research findings with anti-PD-1/PD-L1 antibodies in combination with chemotherapy for patients with platinum-resistant OC, and consider the current role of this novel therapeutic strategy.
  • Understand the biological justification for the evaluation of selective glucocorticoid receptor modulators in combination with chemotherapy for patients with platinum-resistant OC, and recall available and emerging Phase III findings with this novel approach.
  • Recognize adverse events associated with therapeutic approaches commonly employed for OC, and implement strategies to educate patients and manage complications.
  • Describe the scientific justification for, published research data with and current research studies of novel agents and strategies for OC, and effectively prioritize clinical trial opportunities for eligible patients.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to

  • Assess the clinical and biological characteristics of the various histologic subtypes and molecular subgroups of endometrial cancer (EC), and consider the implications for prognosis, biomarker evaluation and therapeutic decision-making.
  • Appreciate available clinical research findings with anti-PD-1/PD-L1 antibodies in combination with chemotherapy as first-line treatment for advanced or recurrent EC, and educate patients with microsatellite instability-high/mismatch repair (MMR)-deficient or microsatellite-stable/MMR-proficient disease about this novel strategy.
  • Understand the biological rationale for and available data with PARP inhibitors in combination with immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy for patients with advanced or metastatic EC.
  • Review available data with anti-PD-1/PD-L1 antibodies in combination with agents targeting the VEGF pathway, and select patients with metastatic EC to receive this novel approach.

  • Understand available clinical research findings with PARP inhibitors as maintenance therapy after first-line platinum-based chemotherapy for advanced ovarian cancer (OC), and appropriately counsel patients regarding personalized treatment recommendations.
  • Evaluate the biological rationale for and published research data with PARP inhibitors in combination with other systemic therapies for advanced OC, and consider the clinical and research implications of these findings.
  • Appreciate available clinical research findings with anti-PD-1/PD-L1 antibodies in combination with chemotherapy as first-line treatment for advanced or recurrent endometrial cancer (EC), and optimally incorporate this novel strategy into the care of patients with microsatellite instability-high/mismatch repair-deficient and microsatellite-stable/mismatch repair-proficient disease.
  • Understand the biological rationale for and available data with PARP inhibitors in combination with immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy for patients with advanced or metastatic EC.
  • Recognize available data with anti-PD-1/PD-L1 antibodies in combination with agents targeting the VEGF pathway, and select patients with metastatic EC for treatment with this novel approach.
  • Evaluate published clinical research documenting the efficacy of HER2-targeted agents and regimens for HER2-overexpressing OC and EC, and consider the role of various approaches in the care of patients with these diseases.

TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of oncology nurses, nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists involved in the treatment of ovarian cancer.

PURPOSE STATEMENT
By providing information on the latest research developments in the context of expert perspectives, this NCPD activity will assist oncology nurses, nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists with the formulation of state-of-the-art clinical management strategies to facilitate optimal care of patients with cancer.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Understand available clinical research findings with PARP inhibitors as maintenance therapy after first-line platinum-based chemotherapy for patients with advanced OC, and counsel appropriate individuals regarding personalized treatment recommendations.
  • Assess available clinical trial data with and newly adapted indications for FDA-endorsed PARP inhibitors for patients with recurrent, platinum-sensitive and multiregimen-refractory OC in order to optimally and appropriately incorporate these agents into current management algorithms.
  • Evaluate the biological rationale for and published clinical research data with PARP inhibitors in combination with other systemic therapies, and consider the current and future clinical and research implications of these findings.
  • Appraise relevant biological, patient- and treatment-related factors to individualize the selection and sequencing of therapy for platinum-sensitive and platinum-resistant recurrent OC.
  • Recognize the rationale for targeting folate receptor alpha in OC, and determine optimal methods to test for this newly relevant biomarker.
  • Understand the structural components and mechanism of action of antibody-drug conjugates directed at folate receptor alpha, and discuss current research findings with these agents.
  • Appreciate the side effects associated with various systemic therapies commonly employed for OC, and use this information to develop supportive management plans for patients.

TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity is intended for gynecologic oncologists, medical oncologists, gynecologists and other healthcare providers involved in the treatment of ovarian cancer.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Understand available clinical research findings with PARP inhibitors as maintenance therapy after first-line platinum-based chemotherapy for advanced ovarian cancer (OC), and as appropriate, counsel patients regarding personalized treatment recommendations.
  • Assess available clinical trial data with and newly adapted indications for FDA-endorsed PARP inhibitors for patients with recurrent, platinum-sensitive and multiregimen-refractory OC to optimally and appropriately incorporate these agents into management algorithms.
  • Evaluate the biological rationale for and published research data with PARP inhibitors in combination with other systemic therapies, and consider the current and future clinical and research implications of these findings for OC management.
  • Appraise relevant biological and patient- and treatment-related factors to individualize the selection and sequencing of therapy for platinum-sensitive and platinum-resistant recurrent OC.
  • Recognize the rationale for targeting folate receptor alpha (FRα) in OC, and determine effective methods to test for this newly relevant biomarker.
  • Understand the mechanism of action of and current research findings with antibody-drug conjugates directed at FRα, and optimally integrate these agents into the care of patients with recurrent OC.
  • Appreciate side effects associated with various systemic therapies commonly employed in the management of OC, and use this information to develop supportive care plans for patients undergoing treatment with these agents.
  • Recall the design of ongoing clinical trials evaluating novel agents and strategies for OC, and as appropriate, counsel patients about availability and participation.
