TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity is intended for medical oncologists, hematology-oncology fellows and other healthcare providers involved in the treatment of breast cancer.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Understand the biological basis for the development of CNS metastases in patients with HER2-positive breast cancer, and appreciate the incidence, prognosis and implications for clinical management.
  • Evaluate available clinical research data and current evidence-based guidelines guiding the selection of local and systemic therapy for patients with HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer (mBC) and brain metastases, and integrate this knowledge into treatment decision-making.
  • Design an optimal approach to the care of patients with HER2-positive breast cancer and CNS metastases, evaluating the implications of prior treatment, symptomatology, extent of disease, time to new onset of disease and other factors.
  • Assess ongoing clinical research evaluating novel agents under development for HER2-positive mBC with CNS metastases, and counsel patients regarding the potential benefits of trial participation.
