TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity is intended for medical oncologists, hematology-oncology fellows and other healthcare providers involved in the treatment of lung cancer.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Appreciate the pathophysiology, incidence and signs and symptoms of Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome (LEMS) in patients with small cell lung cancer (SCLC).
  • Recall strategies to establish a positive diagnosis of LEMS, and use this information to facilitate the accurate and timely evaluation of patients with SCLC in whom this condition is suspected.
  • Develop an understanding of the clinical research database supporting the use of potassium channel blockers in the management of LEMS, including that associated with SCLC, and optimally integrate this treatment into the care of patients with this condition.
  • Appraise the role of multidisciplinary specialists such as neurologists in the diagnosis and management of LEMS, and effectively collaborate with these clinicians to offer best-practice care for patients with SCLC in whom this condition is suspected or diagnosed.

Successful completion of these CME activities, which includes participation in the evaluation components and post-tests, enables the participant to earn up to 1.25 (interview) or 0.5 (lecture) Medical Knowledge MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for each activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.
