TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of oncology nurses, nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists involved in the treatment of prostate cancer.
PURPOSE STATEMENT
By providing information on the latest research developments in the context of expert perspectives, this NCPD activity will assist oncology nurses, nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists with the formulation of state-of-the-art clinical management strategies to facilitate optimal care of patients with prostate cancer.
DESIRED LEARNING OUTCOME
At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be able to self-report understanding of the logistical and practical requirements associated with novel therapies for prostate cancer in order to educate, counsel and assist patients and their families in decision-making.
At the end of the activity, learners will also be able to
- Appraise published research findings on optimal management approaches for patients with biochemical recurrence after local treatment for prostate cancer, and counsel appropriate individuals regarding the potential benefits of FDA-approved systemic treatment options.
- Evaluate the published research supporting the FDA approvals of secondary hormonal agents for nonmetastatic prostate cancer, and apply this information to educate patients about personalized treatment recommendations.
- Explore available data with treatment intensification with cytotoxic therapy, secondary hormonal therapy or combinations of these approaches for metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC), and identify patients for these strategies.
- Assess the available and emerging research supporting PARP inhibitors in combination with androgen receptor pathway inhibitors for patients with metastatic prostate cancer harboring a homologous recombination repair gene alteration, and discern how to optimally incorporate these agents into current clinical management algorithms.
- Appreciate the biological rationale for targeting the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway for prostate cancer, and evaluate available data with novel AKT inhibitors in combination with hormonal therapy for patients with mHSPC and PTEN deficiency.
- Review available Phase III data documenting the efficacy of various forms of radioligand therapy for metastatic prostate cancer, and consider the current and future clinical role of these strategies.
- Recall the design of ongoing clinical trials evaluating other novel agents and strategies for prostate cancer, and counsel appropriate patients about availability and participation.

Research To Practice (RTP) is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation.
CREDIT DESIGNATION STATEMENT
This educational activity for 1.5 contact hours is provided by RTP during the period of July 21, 2026 to July 21, 2027.
This activity is awarded 1.5 ANCC pharmacotherapeutic contact hours.
